CVS is a source code control system.  It is well-supported and well-used by the Open-Source software community.

My bias in desktop distributions is Redhat Linux (RHL) and I have never had to install CVS, since it is bundled with RHL.  Information on where to find CVS on the internet can be found in the Raw Ingredients section.
